U.S. Department of Labor awards a $250,000 Regional Innovation Grant to the 5-counties to develop a seamless workforce development system
December 2008
Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and Ohio Governor Ted Strickland sign a joint letter creating the Ohio-Pennsylvania Interstate Region
January 1, 2009
The five counties – Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana in Ohio and Lawrence and Mercer in Pennsylvania – officially become the nation’s first Interstate Region
April 23, 2009
The Oh-Penn Interstate Region Summit is held with stakeholders representing, workforce development, business, education, and government participating in the creation of a Strategic Plan to guide the Region
August 2009
The Leadership Council selects the structure for the Competitiveness Council that will provide permanent leadership and direction for the Interstate Region
The Interstate Region joins the Tech Belt steering committee
September 9, 2009
First Oh-Penn Interstate Region Job Expo is held at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown. The event attracts 65 employers, 29 training providers, and nearly 5,000 job seekers
November 2009
At the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner, a Special Achievement Award is presented to Sam Giannetti of West Central Job Partnership, Bert Cene of Mahoning & Columbiana Training Association and William Turner of the Trumbull County One-Stop for their organizations’ efforts in creating the Oh-Penn Interstate Region

The Economic Development Agency announces the award of a $4.2 million grant to the City of Hermitage for Technology Center of Excellence/Incubator and Green Skills Learning Laboratory
